Was considering buying a replica mini telescope for bug-out bag at $65, Decided instead to gamble on three separate $15 scopes just to see if I could get one to meet my minimal requirements (mostly being small and lightweight). The three I ordered were:

In a nutshell, I was pleasantly surprised with all three. None of them were the cat's meow, but for ~$15 I didn't expect them to be (and you shouldn't either). For my own purposes, they were all surprisingly acceptable. The HDE did indeed have the best magnification and like other posters said, needs a tripod to really use anything at the upper levels, but it looked pretty darn good at the lowest level (15x). The Celestron had the best quality feel to it, which I expected, being a name brand, but the optics were no better than others. The Carson, which is half the size of the other two (you can't tell by the graphics) is my favorite. Tiny, lightweight, clear picture, enough magnification to just look out there and say, "What is that?" The Carson also has a Macro function, which is pretty cool. I used to check out a tiny splinter in my hand and could see it! My only complaint is the Carson looked like it had been returned by someone else (one of my pet peeves on Amazon when I'm buying 'NEW').
I can't give any of them five stars because they each do have small issues, but I thought four stars was fair because you are getting so much (materially) for so little (cost). Hope that helps.
I just wanted a monocular which gave enough magnification to be useful and had a nice product quality.
This exceeded my expectations and I was delighted when I took it out of its box as just felt more robust than I expected.
It has a nice rubberized finish and the focus ring turns with a nice pressure which is not too easy and not too hard to turn.
What I like best is the size of the lens on the eye piece. Other monocular eye lens are smaller and for me give that limiting black circle effect, this monocular does not have that problem as the les is a bit bigger and so gives a really nice easy viewing experience.
I have a pair of Celestron binoculars too and as a brand cant fault them for value for money.
I like to rate the things I buy as would I give this to someone else as a gift? There are a few things which I think ever man/Dad would be delighted with, Leatherman are a good example, Maglite's are another. I will add this monocular to the list, a simple but great performing gadget which for the price is a great surprise.
I bought this as a lightweight, compact optic to take out on photo trips or hikes. For the price, it performs well. In dim light, the image is rather poor and cloudy, but out in bright sunlight, it's clear, sharp, and contrasty. Not bad. Not as good as my Pentax or Canon binoculars, but I didn't expect that.
It feels pretty solid with the rubber armoring. Being water resistant is a real plus. We'll have to see how durable it is, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. Recommended.
Update: Using it outdoors, it's fine as long as there are no bright light sources in the field of view. However, when I used it when part of the sky was in the field of view, I got a lot of flare. So much flare that it pretty much made it useless in that case. I thought the coating would be more effective,, but it wasn't. Fine when there are no sky or bright lights in the field of view. Next time, I'll look for a better one.
